COMBATTING DISINFORMATION ONLINE ON THE AGENDA AT FIRST EUROPEAN MEDIA LITERACY WEEK
Media literacy was in the spotlight last week as the EU marked its first European Media Literacy Week. A series of events, including a high-level conference brought together organisations from the public and private sectors that are working to tackle issues around disinformation online and low levels of trust in the media.
ECDL Foundation participated in a high level conference in Brussels on 19 March, which featured speeches from the European Commissioner for the Digital Economy and Society, Mariya Gabriel, the Romanian Minister of Culture, Valer-Daniel Breaz, and the Dutch Deputy Permanent Representative to the EU, as well as panel discussions involving broadcasters, news publishers, regulators, academia and international institutions.
Our Information Literacy module, designed to help students develop the skills to critically search for, process and synthesise online information, covers a number of elements of media literacy.
More information about the event and other European Media Literacy Week events can be found on the website if the European Commission.
